English abstract The aim of this work is the chemical characterization of the 8-year old Eucalyptus nitens, from commercial plantation. Structural and non-structural components were determined. The study was achieved in three different zones across the transverse section named outer, intermediate and inner zones. The tests performed for the chemistry characterization were led with the TAPPI 2000 tests. Ash content was analyzed by X-ray diffraction. The results showed that solubility in cold water increased from the inner to outer zone. The value of pH was in the range from 4.46 to 5.48, being higher for the outer zone. Lignin and holocellulose contents were almost the same for the three zones ranging around 21% and 79%, respectively. Ash content is two times lower for the inner zone than for the intermediate and outer zones, these values are closer. The principal elements present in the intermediate zone are K, P and S while in the outer zone these are K, P and Zn. Inner zone does not show dominant elements because this is an immature wood whose cells have only a transportation function
