English abstract | In this essay, I shall present and comment on some considerations that the Irish physician Robert James Graves made regarding the relationship between crystallization, electricity and life. Such relationships involve research in medicine, physiology, embryology, zoology, botany, and life sciences at large. These include, in the first decades of the nineteenth century, problems of ontogeny and evolution of living beings. In this array of themes and issues, special attention is given to the affinity between electricity and life. Besides Graves, I also discuss some ideas from the comparative anatomist Robert Grant |
