| English abstract | The aim of this study is to define apparent impoliteness and explain its working. For that purpose, a literature review about the topic was carried out. An analysis of the use of the apparent impoliteness in two samples of an online chat and in a face-to-face conversation was also carried out. On the basis of an (im)politeness" conception as a continuum between totally polite and totally impolite behaviour, apparent impoliteness can be defined as the conventionally impolite acts that are not working as expected in a specific situation and create a neutral or polite effect on the other"s face. |
| Spanish abstract | El objetivo de este estudio es definir la descortesía aparente y explicar su funcionamiento. Para ello se realizó una revisión bibliográfica sobre el tema y se analizó el uso de la descortesía aparente en dos muestras de un chat y en una conversación cara a cara. Partiendo de la concepción de (des)cortesía como un continuo desde un comportamiento totalmente cortés hasta uno totalmente descortés, se puede definir la descortesía aparente como los actos convencionalmente descorteses que no funcionan como tales en una situación específica y que producen un efecto neutral o cortés en la imagen social del otro. |
