| Spanish abstract | El propósito del presente artículo consiste en realizar un aporte a los estudios referidos a las motivaciones que guiaron el debate entre Quinto Aurelio Símaco y Ambrosio de Milán, en torno al conflicto suscitado a raíz del retiro del altar de la Victoria de la Curia senatorial. Interesa encontrar, a partir de la lectura crítica de la tercera relatio y de las epístolas del obispo milanés, las ideas centrales de sus autores y sus respectivas interpretaciones de los acontecimientos, en momentos de tensión entre paganos y cristianos. A través del análisis de dichos documentos, se pretende comprender la mentalidad de uno y otro grupo, así como su auténtica significación en el proceso de transformación política y religiosa acaecido en el Imperio romano durante la cuarta centuria |
| English abstract | The purpose of the present study is to add to the body of knowledge about guiding motivations in the debate between Quintus Aurelius Symmachus y Ambrosio of Milan, related to the conflict that began after the retreat of the altar of Victory of the Senatorial Curia. We are interested in finding, through critical reading the third relatio and the letters of the bishop of Milan, the central ideas of the authors and their respective interpretation of facts, at a time of tension between pagans and Christians. Through analysis of such documents, we pretended to comprehend the mentalities of both groups, as their authentic signification in the process of political and religious transformation that took place in the Roman Empire during the fourth century |
