English abstract | This work aims at indicating the scope and limits of the biologizing theories of consciousness. This subject has recently become prominent not only in the neuroscientific researches but also in those ones carried out by philosophers and other researchers in humanities. We recognize that the biologizing concepts have greatly contributed to the study of consciousness, mainly by exorcizing the Cartesian “spirit” from scientific agenda. On the other hand, that concept has failed to explain what mechanisms are involved in the process of subjectivity constitution. If brain causes consciousness, then we are confronted by an epistemological problem whose solution requires an understanding of the biological mechanisms involved. Nevertheless, what happens is that to make those mechanisms explicit may not be enough to find out what consciousness is |
