| Spanish abstract | La safranina O es un colorante biológico también conocido como dimetil safranina y rojo básico 2. Al ser una molécula cargada positivamente (catión) es capaz de combinarse con elementos celulares de cargas negativas. La tinción de safranina O es de contraste, ya que se usa para diferenciar una estructura celular previamente teñida con otro colorante. Se utiliza en distintas técnicas histológicas que detectan células enterocromafines del tracto gastrointestinal, el protoplasma y núcleo de microorganismos patógenos. Este colorante también se ha convertido en una guía básica en la identificación de procesos degenerativos como la osteoartritis, debido a que la safranina O se une por cargas a los grupos carboxilo y a los grupos sulfato (ambos con carga negativa) de los glicosaminoglicanos (GAGs), los cuales abundan en la matriz extracelular del cartílago articular |
| English abstract | Safranin O is a biological stain, also known as dimethyl safranin or basic red 2. This is a positively charged molecule (cation) and can be binding with a negative charged cell elements. Safranin technique is a contrast stain and it is used to distinguish a cellular structure previously stained with another dye. Safranin stain is emploided in different histological techniques that detecting enterochromaffin cells in gastrointestinal tract, the cytoplasm and nucleus of pathogens microrganisms. This dye has become a basic guide for identifying degenerative processes such as Osteoarthritis, due that the safranin O binds to the carboxyl and sulphate groups (negative charged) of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which are abundant in the extracellular matrix of articular cartilage |
