| Spanish abstract | En este artículo, me interesa reconstruir la articulación de distintos saberes jesuitas en dos momentos de su trayectoria. Un primer momento, en su calidad de solicitantes y un segundo, en su itinerancia, ya como misioneros. A través de las cartas indipetae los estudiosos han profundizado en la subjetividad de los candidatos, reconociendo la indiferencia y el martirio como valores centrales en su formación religiosa. Estas cartas fueron enviadas por los jóvenes a sus superiores con el fin de ser elegidos misioneros. Sin embargo, incluso en su itinerancia podemos reconocer el despliegue de otros saberes prácticos y científicos, igualmente relevantes en la trayectoria de los misioneros. En este caso hemos elegido el septentrión novohispano, una región en la que podemos reconocer cómo los misioneros echaron mano de sus conocimientos cartográficos y de historia natural |
| English abstract | In this article, I analyze the tension that results from the revision of the indipeate letters and the knowledge of the missionaries in the northern part of New Spain, with the intention to reconstruc, both their practical and scientific skills. The indipetae letters account for the subjectivity of the candidates, there the values of indifference and martyrdom are highlighted, but with little or no information about their knowledge. These letters were sent by the youth to their superiors in order to be chosen as missionaries. It is through a review of itinerancy in the northern New Spain that we can recognize how the missionaries had a certain command of cartography and natural history, as well as an inclination to learn other languages. All of their knowledge was fundamental in the conquest of new mission territories |
