| English abstract | This paper discusses the concept of Narrative Identity and Otherness in the work of Paul Ricoeur. The concept of narrative identity is initially approached by Ricoeur in Time and narrative and then reviewed in Oneself as another. It is the answer to the question: “Who are you?”. The answer to such question necessarily implies the narrative of life since “the person is what he/she did and suffered”. The effort to deepen the notion of subject is absolutely decisive to a proper understanding of the “Other” and of “Otherness” itself. The Other, however, in the metaphysical tradition, is rejected and forgotten from ancient to contemporary philosophy. Therefore, this paper aims to examine this question of narrative and personal identity in Ricoeur´s thought, as part of a meditation on otherness guided by Ricoeur hermeneutic phenomenological analysis in his books Time and Narrative, Oneself as Another and From the text to action |
| Portuguese abstract | O presente artigo examina os conceitos de identidade narrativa e de alteridade na obra de Paul Ricoeur. A questão da identidade narrativa é abordada ele, inicialmente, em Tempo e narrativa e é retomada em Si-mesmo como outro. É a resposta à questão “quem é você?” e implica, necessariamente, a narrativa da vida porque “a pessoa é o que ela fez e o que ela sofreu”, e é na tarefa de complexificação da noção de sujeito que está, de modo decisivo, a compreensão da alteridade ou do outro. O outro, no entanto, na tradição metafísica é recusado e esquecido da Antiguidade à Contemporaneidade. Por essa razão, o presente texto objetiva examinar a questão da narrativa e da identidade pessoal, em Ricoeur, no quadro de uma meditação sobre a alteridade à luz de uma análise hermenêutico-fenomenológica ricoeuriana nas obras Tempo e narrativa, O si-mesmo como um outro e Do texto à ação |
