| Spanish abstract | Reporto el primer registro del perico argentino (Myiopsitta monachus) en la ciudad de Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca. Registré varios individuos de esta especie entre mayo de 2008 y mayo de 2009. Detecté un total de cuatro nidos de esta especie en el parque recreativo Bosque El Tequio, situado a 5 km al sur de la ciudad. Los cuatro nidos fueron construidos sobre árboles de eucalipto. Los registros reportados en esta nota son los primeros del perico argentino para el sur de México. Se requieren estudios adicionales para determinar si la población de pericos argentinos registrada en Oaxaca es viable y si tendrá un efecto negativo sobre la fauna que habita dentro de la matriz urbano-rural-agrícola en la que fue registrada |
| English abstract | I report the first record of the Monk Parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus) in the city Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca. I recorded several individuals of this species between May 2008 and May 2009. Four monk parakeet nests were found in the recreational park Bosque El Tequio, located 5 km to the south of the city. All nests were built on eucalyptus trees. This note represents the first record of a breeding population of the Monk Parakeet in southern Mexico. Further studies are required to determine whether the population of Monk parakeets in Oaxaca is stable, and whether this exotic species will have a negative impact on native wildlife within the urban-rural-agricultural matrix in which it was recorded |
