| Spanish abstract | En enero de 2021 curé la exposición de arte nicaragüense contemporáneo en La Habana No somos memoria conformada por obras producidas después de las manifestaciones de abril de 2018 en Nicaragua. Era la primera que vez que se presentaban artistas jóvenes nicaragüenses en Cuba fuera del ámbito estatal. Unos meses antes, el 27 noviembre de 2020, había sido protagonizada por centenas de jóvenes artistas e intelectuales la manifestación pública más numerosa frente a un ministerio después del triunfo de la revolución cubana. Esos mismos jóvenes fueron el público principal de la exposición No somos memoria. Aquí me interesa pensar en la práctica curatorial como una oportunidad para habilitar estrategias ante el miedo a “hablar” y el deseo de “hablar” sobre el propio miedo, fuera del espacio estatal -en un contexto donde la estatalización de la vida es considerable- pero con el Estado como protagonista principal de la práctica artística |
| English abstract | In January 2021 I curated the exhibition of contemporary Nicaraguan art in Havana We are not memory made up of works produced after the April 2018 demonstrations in Nicaragua. It was the first time that young Nicaraguan artists were presented in Cuba outside the state sphere. A few months earlier, on November 27, 2020, hundreds of young artists and intellectuals had staged the largest public demonstration in front of a ministry after the triumph of the Cuban revolution. Those same young people were the main audience of the exhibition We are not memory. Here I am interested in thinking about the curatorial practice as an opportunity to enable strategies in the face of the fear of “speaking” and the desire to “speak” about fear itself, outside the state space -in a context where the stateization of life is considerable- but with the State as the main protagonist of artistic practice |
