| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo analiza la función política que tuvieron el protocolo, las celebraciones públicas y las preeminencias durante el siglo XVII, pero, especialmente, los conflictos que surgieron en torno a todos ellos. En el Estado-teatro peruano, tales disputas fueron el escenario mismo donde se competía y discutía el poder, es decir, donde cotidianamente se realizaba la política. Se estudia la actuación de los cabildos del Cuzco y de Lima (representantes políticos de las elites locales), los cuales, por medio de dichos conflictos, se relacionaron con diversas organizaciones. De este modo, adquirieron una experiencia propia que fue definiendo y construyendo su identidad |
| English abstract | This article analyzes the political function of protocol, public celebrations, and public status during the seventeenth century, and in particular the conflicts which these realities generated. In the Peruvian State-theater, these disputes were the very stage on which power was fought over and contested. The role played by the town councils of Cuzco and Lima (which represented the local elites) will be analyzed, as well as the relationship of these conflicts with different organizations. It was in the experience of these conflicts that the councils defined and constructed their identity |
