| Spanish abstract | En el presente artículo se realiza un análisis de la relación entre la Iglesia católica y el Estado de Boyacá durante la década de 1870. Se supera la tesis tradicional de la unidad del clero boyacense en su actitud intransigente y hostil frente al liberalismo de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Con ese matiz, se presenta el debate a la reforma educativa liberal de 1870, y la “Guerra de las escuelas” de 1876 – 1877. Donde la Iglesia se dividió: un sector del clero fue de tendencia “instruccionista” apoyó el proyecto educativo y lo consideró como una posibilidad para el progreso social de la población. Mientras que el otro sector sostuvo una actitud “intransigente”, utilizando para su ataque desde el púlpito, la sanción religiosa, y la organización de sociedades católicas. Durante la guerra esta división del clero se tradujo en una posición pacifista y otra hostil. Este último sector hizo alianza con el Partido Conservador, incidiendo en la movilización de guerrillas conservadoras en defensa de la religión |
| English abstract | The objective of this article is to make an analysis about the relation between the Catholic Church and the State of Boyacá during the decade of 1870. It outpaces the traditional thesis of the Boyacense's clergy unity, in a hostile and rebel attitude in front of the liberalism of the XIX second half century. Following this perspective, it shows the debate in front of the educative reform of 1870, and the “War of the schools” of 1886-1887. Where the church got divided: one sector of the clergy had a “instructionist” tendency that supported and considered the educative project as a possibility for the social progress of the population. Meanwhile the other sector maintained an “intransigent” attitude, used to attack from the pulpit, religious sanction, and the organization of Catholic societies. During the war, this division in the clergy meant a pacifist position and the other one hostile. This last sector made alliance with the Conservative Party, having an impact on the mobilization of conservative guerrillas in defense of religion |
