| English abstract | This text discusses abortive practices and the medical outlook on the women involved in these cases. It also refers to the consolidation of the medical knowledge on female body, the gestation and the abortion. The main goal of this paper is not only the analysis of the multiple discourses given by medical professionals related to the abortive practices, but also some of the possible ways which women and doctors found to eliminate the pregnancy. All the medical sources refer to the period between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century from several superior teaching institutions |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo discute as práticas abortivas e o olhar da medicina sobre as mulheres envolvidas nesses casos. Tratamos também da consolidação do saber médico sobre os corpos femininos, a gestação e o aborto. O objetivo central é a análise dos múltiplos discursos proferidos pelos profissionais da medicina no que se refere à prática de abortamento, bem como algumas das formas possíveis, encontrado por mulheres e médicos, para eliminação da gravidez. A pesquisa teve como fontes teses médicas datadas entre o final do século XIX e início do século XX de diversas instituições de ensino superior e, por meio desta documentação, verificamos a multiplicidade de discursos e práticas médicas referentes ao aborto |
