| Spanish abstract | En este artículo se muestra el papel que jugaron las Provincias Internas de Occidente y Oriente en la guerra de insurgente-contrainsurgente que estalló en 1810. Se hace primero una caracterización de esas provincias a partir de la creación de la Comandancia General de las Provincias Internas como una jurisdicción que, aunque atravesó por periodos de autonomía y dependencia con respecto al virreinato fue muy importante en la institucionalización y estabilidad del septentrión. A partir de estos antecedentes se trata sobre la formación de los estados norteños teniendo como primera prerrogativa conservar la autonomía. | English abstract | This article shows the role played by the Internal Provinces of the West and the East in the insurgent-counterinsurgent war of 1810. It first presents a characterisation of these provinces based on the creation of the Commandancy General of the Internal Provinces as a jurisdiction that, even though it experienced periods of autonomy and dependence vis-à-vis the viceroyalty, was very important in the institutionalization and stability of the Septentrión. Afterwards, the formation of northern states is dealt with, whose first prerogative was maintaining autonomy.
