| English abstract | The aim of this paper is to reflect on the biographical essays written by Hannah Arendt. Its focus is to understand the reason why the author chose the biographical genre, instead of working only with the argumentative text, as it is usual in the philosophical practice. We will work with two of her leading texts on the subject, Rahel Varnhagen: the life of a Jewess, and Men in dark times. The hypothesis that guides the work is that biographical writing in Arendt means the elaboration of a theory of history that is incompatible with the modern conception of History, while arguing about a new connection between action and narration |
| Portuguese abstract | A proposta do artigo é refletir sobre os ensaios biográficos produzidos por Hannah Arendt. Trata-se de buscar compreender porque a autora escreve biografias, e não apenas textos argumentativos, como é usual na prática filosófica. Teremos em vista, sobretudo, dois de seus esforços mais contundentes, seu texto sobre Rahel Varnhagen: a vida de uma judia alemã na época do Romantismo e os ensaios reunidos em Homens em tempos sombrios. A suposição é a de que a narrativa de vidas em Arendt configura-se menos como um método de pesquisa e mais como a elaboração de uma teoria da história, a qual parte de uma refutação do conceito moderno de História para defender um novo laço entre ação e narração |
