| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo busca analizar la circulación de sustancias como la cocaína, la morfina, el opio y la cannabis sativa en Chile entre 1920 y 1960, destacando tanto la constitución de circuitos y organizaciones destinadas a la producción, internación y tráfico de dichas sustancias sometidas a regulación médica y legal, como la implementación de normativas e instituciones destinadas a dicha regulación. Así, se analiza el papel jugado por médicos y farmacéuticos en la constitución de un mercado ilícito de drogas y el surgimiento de traficantes especializados y organismos policiales dedicados a su persecución, todo ello en los marcos de un sistema normativo que toleró la prescripción regulada de estas sustancias, y que al mismo tiempo fue testigo de su permanente vulneración |
| English abstract | This article analyzes the circulation of substances like cocaine, morphine, opium, and marijuana (cannabis sativa) in Chile between 1920 and 1960. It underscores the development of circuits and organizations involved in the production, importation, and traffic of legallyand medically-regulated substances as well as the implementation of laws and institutions charged with regulating them. In this way, the article analyzes the role played by doctors and pharmacists in the constitution of an illegal market for drugs and the emergence of specialized traffickers and police organizations dedicated to persecuting them. All this occurred in the context of a legal system that tolerated the regulated prescription of these substances and that, at the same time, witnessed the continual violation of these norms |
