| Spanish abstract | La sociedad venezolana no recuerda con precisión el Manual de Carreño, pionero en lo que concierne a la modernización social del país de los primeros cincuenta años de vida republicana. Sin embargo, se rememora en este texto cuando se habla de «buenas costumbres», sobre todo en las conversaciones de generaciones antiguas, motivado en parte a la construcción social propiciada por este reglamento de vida, que delineó los códigos constructores del país. Para comprender el significado de este Manual de Buenas Costumbres, debemos partir de las consecuencias que sufrió la sociedad venezolana al atravesar por cambios bruscos. Nos referimos al periodo de formación de la nación venezolana. Este proceso de ruptura, integración y posterior ruptura nuevamente, configuró espacios sociales de convivencia altamente desarticulados, que necesitaban reglas de supervivencia, que indicaran el camino para contrarrestar las impresiciones sociales del nuevo orden. Por esta razón las cartillas, catecismos y manuales de urbanidad, tenían como objetivo principal, regir la estructura social y de esa manera, generar el bienestar propicio para la formación de un ciudadano ideal |
| English abstract | The Venezuelan society doesn’t remember accurately the Manual of Carreño, pioneer in what concerns to the social modernization of the country of the first fifty years of republican life. However, it is remembered when one speaks of .good customs, mainly in the conversations of old generations, motivated partly to the social construction propitiated by this regulation of life that delineates the building codes of the country. To understand the meaning of this Manual of Good Customs, we should revise the consequences that the Venezuelan society suffered when crossing for abrupt changes. We refer to the period of formation of the Venezuelan nation. This rupture process, integration and later rupture again, I configure highly disjointed social spaces of coexistence that you/they needed rules of survival that indicated the road to counteract the social impresicions of the new order. For this reason that the notes, catechisms and manuals of courtesy, had as main objective, to govern the social structure, and in that way to generate the favorable well-being for the formation of an ideal citizen |
