| Spanish abstract | El empeño ecuménico que acomuna hoy a las iglesias cristianas, impone una revisión de los propósitos que en esa línea se han impulsado a lo largo de los siglos que siguieron a la separación de las iglesias de Occidente y Oriente. El concilio de Basilea-Ferrara-Florencia-Roma, a mediados del siglo XV, constituye una piedra miliar de ese itinerario eclesial. Alentado por Roma y por Constantinopla, las capitales religiosas y políticas de los imperios de Occidente y Oriente que sobrevivían entonces, considerado hoy ecuménico por la primera mas no por la segunda, forma parte de esas tentativas. Incluido como un logro, si bien de corto alcance, su efectivo influjo respecto de la unión de las dos comunidades eclesiales se pierde en los vericuetos de la historia. Objetivo del artículo será desentrañar su significación actual para la causa ecuménica cristiana mediante un método histórico hermenéutico que somete a examen los intereses políticos y religiosos en él entrecruzados. |
| English abstract | The ecumenical determination that joins the Christian churches together today warrants a revision of the projects that have been promoted along those lines through the centuries that followed the separation of the Western and Eastern churches. The Council of Basel-Ferrara-Florence-Rome, in the mid-15th century, is a milestone in this ecclesial itinerary. Encouraged by Rome and Constantinople, the surviving religious and political capitals of the Western and Eastern empires, which are now considered to be ecumenical by the former but not by the latter, make part of those attempts. Included as an achievement, albeit a short-term one, its effective influence on the union of the two ecclesial communities has been lost in the twists and turns of history. The aim of the article will be to unravel its current significance for the Christian ecumenical cause by means of an historical-hermeneutical approach that examines the intersecting political and religious interests. |
