English abstract | This article will expose the conceptions in the Seextenth and Seventeenth Centuries of the “divinatory art” to discover underground water and mineral veins. We will describe two cases, in the beginning and in the end of the Eighteenth Cen-tury, which made the so called “rhabdomancy” a theme of controversial investiga-tions, mainly among the French doctors. Experiments made by the Italian naturalist Lazzaro Spallanzani will be described, exposing how he planned and executed tests to analyse the phenomenon |
