| Spanish abstract | El artículo explora cómo las novelas de adulterio del entre siècle venezolano no sólo encuentran en la histérica un cuerpo útil en relación a su enfermedad o incluso al adulterio, sino que también escenifican con él, las patologías sexuales más discutidas de la época. Asimismo, plantea que el género novelístico construido “por entregas” logra evadir la censura para crear un manual de patologías sexuales en el cual, si bien se diagnostica al enfermo y se categoriza como “desviado”, también se le otorga cuerpo y visibiliza |
| English abstract | The article explores how novels of adultery of the Venezuelan entresiècle deploy the body of the hysteric not only around themes of illness and adultery, but also as a medium to display the era’s most hotly debated sexual pathologies. It also argues that serialized novels, as a genre, manage to evade censors to create a manual of sexual pathologies. Although these texts diagnose and label the “deviant” as such, they also serve to give deviance a body and make it visible |
