| Spanish abstract | Este artículo trata de la condición social y jurídica de las cortesanas en Roma durante el siglo II a.C. Para analizar dicha situación, el autor utiliza las comedias de Plauto a fin de explorar las particularidades de su mundo. Intenta determinar la tipología de cortesanas que se encuentra en la comedia de Plauto, como también las diferencias que existen entre ellas. Especial tratamiento reciben la prohibición jurídica de contraer matrimonio que pueda pesar sobre ellas y el concubinato |
| English abstract | This article discusses the social and legal status of courtesans in Rome during the second century B.C. In analyzing this situation, the author uses the comedies of Plautus to explore the particularities of their world. He tries to determine the type of courtesans found in the comedy of Plautus together with the differences existing between them. The legal ban on marriage that might have weighed upon them and concubinate are accorded special treatment |
