| Spanish abstract | Este trabajo analiza la inscripción de las orejeras que formaban parte del ajuar funerario del gobernante palencano k’inich Janahb’ pakal. propone que los textos de tales ornamentos se refieren a dos deidades asociadas con la lluvia y el rayo, chaahk y Yopaat, estrechamente vinculadas entre sí y con el dios k’awiil. Los registros de las dos primeras deidades se relacionan con la identidad ultraterrena de pakal, ya que al morir éste fue concebido como una encarnación sagrada de k’awiil. El texto también señala que las orejeras fueron tributadas por o’-kan, dignatario originario de una localidad foránea llamada Lah, afiliada políticamente al señorío de piedras Negras. tales ornamentos debieron formar parte de un lote mayor de piezas de jadeíta que habrían sido utilizadas para confeccionar otros adornos del atuendo mortuorio de pakal |
| English abstract | this paper analyzes the jeroglyphic inscription of the jadeite earspools that were part of the funerary regalia of the palenque ruler k’inich Janahb’ pakal. it is proposed that the texts of such ornaments relate to chaahk and Yopaat, deities associated to rain and lightning. these deities were closely linked to each other and with god k’awiil. the records of the first deities relate to pakal’s afterlife identity, considering that after his death he was judged as a sacred incarnation of k’awiil. the text also notes that the earspools were a tribute of o’-kan, a dignatary from Lah, a foreign locality affiliated to piedras Negras’ dinasty. these ornaments must be part of a larger lot of jadeite pieces that would have been used to make other ornaments of pakal’s funeral garb |
