| English abstract | The main characteristic Boaventura Cardoso’s, José Luandino Vieira’s and Mia Couto’s works is the fusion between history and literature. It derives from the necessity, or rather, from their desire of filling the gaps of the social memory of their countries—Angola and Mozambique--, fractured by colonialism. By privileging a polyphonic, dialogic discourse, what, in part, traces back tradition, and its dissonant voices, able to share experiences, these contemporary writers recur to a productive artistic device: they create a character with the characteristics of the griot to make their stories believable. | Portuguese abstract | A obra de Boaventura Cardoso, José Luandino Vieira e Mia Couto tem como característica predominante a fusão entre o histórico e o literário. Esse processo advém da necessidade, ou melhor, do desejo desses escritores de preencher as lacunas existentes na memória das sociedades onde vivem - a angolana e a moçambicana -, fraturadas pelo advento do colonialismo. Privilegiando um discurso polifônico, dialógico, o que em parte remonta à tradição, com suas vozes sonantes, capazes de partilhar as experiências de forma conjuntiva, esses escritores africanos contemporâneos recorrem a um produtivo artifício artístico: criam um personagem com os traços do griot para dar a veracidade necessária à enunciação.
