| Spanish abstract | Estudios de evolución de línea de costa a partir de fotografías e imágenes satelitales en la Isla de Manzanillo para el período 1937 y 2005 mostraron una pérdida acumulada de 3.3 ha de bosque de manglar en el sector sur denominado Punta Recluta. Se realizaron una serie de recorridos por esta área identificando cuatro especies correspondientes a mangle rojo (Rhizophora mangle), mangle blanco (Laguncularia racemosa), mangle negro (Avicennia germinans) y mangle piñuelo (Conocarpus erectus). Fue evidente la gran cantidad de residuos sólidos provenientes de la Bahía de Cartagena que se concentran en la orilla a lo largo de la línea de costa acumulándose particularmente entre las raíces de R. mangle. Dado el interés que existe de evitar que continúe la pérdida progresiva de la cobertura boscosa, se identificaron dos sitios susceptibles para iniciar un programa de reforestación de manglar, en primera instancia para establecer el vivero y para iniciar a futuro la reforestación con R. mangle |
| English abstract | Studies of the evolution of the coastline from photographs and satellite images in the Island of Manzanillo for the period 1937 and 2005 showed an accumulated loss of 3.3 ha of mangrove forest in the southern sector called Punta Recluta. Four mangrove tree species were identified: red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle), white mangrove (Laguncularia racemosa), black mangrove (Avicennia germinans) and button mangrove (Conocarpus erectus). It was evident that a large amount of solid waste from the Bay of Cartagena is concentrated on the shore along the coastline, accumulating particularly between the roots of R. mangle. Given the interest in preventing further progressive loss of forest cover, two susceptible sites were identified to initiate a mangrove reforestation program, first to establish the nursery and then to to initiate future reforestation with R. mangle |
