| English abstract | This study aims at investigating the process which included the French language in the public schools of the province of Minas Gerais in the early decades of the XIX century. The cornerstones of such analysis will be: the creation of the legislation regulating the teaching of the language, its transition from a cultural asset to a school subject, the framework upon which the teaching of the language was based, the role the school actors played in the configuration of the language as a school subject; the teaching practices. The results found in this study will contribute to help understand the process which instituted the French language as a school subject in the province of Minas Gerais |
| Portuguese abstract | O objetivo com este trabalho é tratar do processo de escolarização da língua francesa na instrução pública da província de Minas nas primeiras décadas do século XIX. Tomam lugar central nas análises empreendidas: a produção de uma legislação que institui o ensino da língua e promove a “passagem” de uma prática cultural para um saber escolarizado; a organização escolar na qual se assenta o ensino do francês; o papel dos sujeitos escolares na configuração da disciplina; as práticas de ensino. Os resultados obtidos neste trabalho pretendem contribuir para a compreensão do processo de escolarização da província de Minas Gerais |
