| English abstract | The article analyzes five master theses that take as their objects the physical education and its dilemmas in the disputed territory of the curriculum. The theses were based on interviews with students, professors and members of the administration staff of schools from the cities of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Vitória (ES). The objective of this article is to understand how physical education is inserted in the institutional dynamic of the studied schools and what dilemmas this discipline has to face in its everyday life. We conclude that physical education, according to the narratives of the social actors, ends up serving as a vehicle of development of heuristic values for the citizen formation. The loss of the specificity of the discipline reveals the tension in the constant search for status in the curriculum universe. The central dilemma is that physical education is represented as a space and time associated to the universe of leisure, in an institution that values disciplines that are usually considered useful in the job market |
| Portuguese abstract | O artigo analisa cinco dissertações de mestrado que tomam como objeto a Educação Física escolar e seus dilemas no território contestado do currículo. Os estudos selecionados realizaram entrevistas com alunos, professores e agentes do corpo administrativo nas cidades do Rio de Janeiro (RJ) e Vitória (ES). O objetivo deste artigo é compreender como a Educação Física está inserida na dinâmica institucional das escolas estudadas e quais dilemas esta disciplina apresenta no cotidiano. Concluímos que a Educação Física, segundo as narrativas dos atores sociais, acaba por servir como meio de desenvolvimento de valores heurísticos para formação do cidadão. A perda da especificidade da disciplina, englobada por tais valores, revela a tensão na permanente busca de status no espaço do currículo. O dilema central é que a Educação Física é representada como um tempo e espaço escolar associado ao universo do lazer, numa instituição que valoriza disciplinas consideradas úteis no mercado de trabalho |
