| English abstract | This article analyses the educational dimension spaces (Frago, 1998) of the Imperial Collegio de Pedro II (CPII), secondary education institution founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1837. The initial organization of space to house the CPII, their registration in the city centre and the creation of Internato in 1857 make up our thinking. In particular, highlighted the symbolic dimension of the practice of punishment and reward that the CPII implemented in Cafua and the Salão Nobre, respectively. In conclusion, noticed the power of speech to the organization of hygienic spaces of CPII. Also noticed that the CPII organized a series of practices involving examinations, punishments and rewards as techniques of individuation (Foucault, 1986) whose goal was to curb the acts reprehensible and distinguish the most talented students of the institution |
| Portuguese abstract | O presente artigo analisa a dimensão educativa (Frago, 1998) de espaços do Imperial Collegio de Pedro Segundo (CPII), instituição de ensino secundário fundada no Rio de Janeiro em 1837. A organização inicial dos espaços para abrigar o CPII, sua inscrição no centro da cidade carioca e a criação do Internato em 1857 compõem nossas reflexões. Em especial, destacamos a dimensão simbólica das práticas de punição e recompensa que o CPII implementou na Cafua e no Salão Nobre, respectivamente. Em conclusão, notamos a força do discurso higiênico na organização dos espaços do CPII. Percebemos também que o CPII organizou um conjunto de práticas que envolveu exames, castigos e prêmios como técnicas de individuação (Foucault, 1986) cujo objetivo era coibir os atos reprováveis e distinguir os alunos mais talentosos da instituição |
