| Spanish abstract | A lo largo del 2014, una serie de publicaciones, dentro de las cuales se cuenta un informe de la Comisión Nacional de la Verdad (CNV), conmemoró los cincuenta años del golpe de 1964. La mayoría de estas iniciativas trataron de comprender las características del régimen autoritario que aún persisten en el orden democrático que se forjó a partir de la década de 1980. En ese contexto, se habla de permanencias, restos o continuidades en diversos aspectos de la vida política, social y cultural del país. El objetivo de este trabajo es comprender las líneas de continuidad y los elementos de ruptura entre los discursos de legitimación del uso de la violencia por parte del Estado en el período autoritario (1964-1985). Este afán no se relaciona de forma directa con la permanencia de determinadas estructuras institucionales, sino con las narrativas construidas en vistas de justificar cierta concepción del Estado –y, por qué no, de democracia–, que tienen a la violencia como uno de sus elementos centrales. Para alcanzar este objetivo, el presente trabajo analizará el discurso de los militares envueltos en la represión política durante el período autoritario, tomando como fuente los testimonios brindados a la CNV. Esta labor permitirá comprender cuáles son las estrategias discursivas empleadas hasta el día de hoy para legitimar el uso de la violencia por parte del Estado. Con esto, se pretende identificar cuáles son los elementos fundamentales de la construcción de una “ideología de la violencia”, pensando también en la formación de una cultura política que la sustenta y difunde |
| English abstract | During 2014, a series of releases, among which there was a report of the Comissão Nacional da Verdade (CNV), marked the 50th anniversary of the 1964 coup d’état. Most of these writings shown an interest in understanding the features of the authoritarian regime that still linger in the democratic order, starting in the 1980s. In this context, we talk about some lingering aspects, remains or continuums, in the country’s political, social and cultural scenes. The aim of this work is to show both the lines of the continuum and the elements that mark a split among the statements that validate the use of violence on behalf of the State during authoritarian times (1964-1985). This work is not directly related with the prevalence of certain institutional structures; instead, it is related with the narratives developed in order to justify a conception of the State –and also, perhaps, of democracy itself–, which put violence at the centre of the agenda. In order to achieve this goal, this work will analyze statements from military personnel involved in political repression throughout the authoritarian era, using as a source the testimonies provided to the CNV. This will help us understand which are the discursive strategies deployed to this day in order to validate the use of violence on behalf of the State. We want to identify the key elements in the development of an ‘ideology of violence’, all while thinking in the formation of a parallel political culture that both sustains and spreads that ideology |
