English abstract | The exhibitions of peoples initiated by Carl Hagenbeck constitute an important historical cultural phenomenon, since they allow to unravel the mentalities of both the nineteenth-century Europe and Hagenbeck himself in relation to the extraEuropean "other". It is hypothesized that Hagenbeck's conception of the "primitive" can be classified as "instructive" insofar as it allows the author to demonstrate to the author that the peoples exhibited had the capacity to learn from civilization, to teach to the European values and attitudes, in what would be considered a critic to the society of his time |
