| Spanish abstract | El presente ensayo ofrece un panorama general y poco conocido sobre la relación intelectual entre dos escritores exiliados en Argentina: el polaco Witold Gombrowicz (1904-1969) y el cubano Virgilio Piñera (1912-1979). En la primera parte se ofrecen detalles de su amistad y en la segunda se profundiza en la influencia mutua a través de un análisis comparativo de las novelas Trans-Atlántico (1953) y La carne de René (1952). Se sostiene aquí que las semejanzas entre los personajes secundarios de ambas novelas demuestran el deseo compartido de renovar los mundos literarios de sus respectivos países natales y también de Argentina |
| English abstract | This paper makes a case for a comparative study of the lives and works of two 20th century émigré writers in Argentina: Polish Witold Gombrowicz (1904- 1969) and Cuban Virgilio Piñera (1912-1979). Following an outline of some biographical details of their friendship, the novels Trans-Atlantyk (1953) and La carne de René (1952) are presented to shed more light on the scope of the exchange of ideas between the two authors. It is here suggested that the similarities between the secondary characters in the two novels are driven by Gombrowicz and Piñera’s shared desire to renovate literary traditions both in their home countries and in Argentina |
