| English abstract | This article analyzes the foundation of ethics in the work On the Foundation of Morals by Arthur Schopenhauer. It keeps the focus on the ethics of compassion--which was the concern of the 19th century philosopher--inferred from a metaphysical foundation without a telos. This moral motivation will be demonstrated on the basis of axiological elements, keeping the discourse distant from any investigation that might be considered enlightened. Manteremos o foco na ética da compaixão, preocupação do filósofo do século XIX, inferida a partir de um fundamento metafísico sem um telos. Essa motivação moral será demonstrada a partir de elementos axiológicos, afastando o discurso de qualquer averiguação que possa ser considerada iluminista.
