| Spanish abstract | El viaje de Alexander Von Humboldt a la América española nos permite una reflexión sobre identidad latinoamericana a partir de la categoría del otro. Los escritos de Humboldt articulan una noción de espacio que está constituida tanto por la relación entre población y territorio, como por la mirada que sus habitantes y otro viajeros tenían de él. Los mecanismos de diferenciación permiten reflexionar sobre el problema de lo universal frente a lo particular y de lo semejante frente a lo diferente. De este modo, América se va insertando en los escenarios globales desde nociones estructuradas a partir de la oposición, influyendo en la delimitación de rasgos identitarios para América y Europa |
| English abstract | Alexander Von Humboldt’s journey to Spanish America allows us to reflect about Latin American identity, starting from the category of the other. Humboldt’s documents articulate the idea of space, established by the relation between population and territory, as well as by the view that its inhabitants and other travelers had about it. The mechanisms of differentiation allow us to reflect about the problem of the universal with the particular, and about the similar with the different. This is how America starts joining itself to global scenarios, from structured ideas from the opposition, influencing the delimitation of identity features for America and Europe |
