| English abstract | The current article does not unravel this conceptual debate, but reviews and interprets the main landmarks of international engagement – in its militar y , civil and diplomatic facets – in Afghanistan since the deposition of the Taliban regime. Didactically, we identify four stages in this unfinished process: a moment of illusory sta bility (2001 - 05); a stage when the Taliban uprising intensified (2006 - 08); the apex of the conflict, under the sign of the counter - insurgency strategy (2009 - 11); and the current challenges of the military transition and of the political reconciliation (201 2 - 14). Finally, we will think over the impact that the Afghan War may cause upon the multilateral statebuilding exercises |
| Portuguese abstract | O presente artigo não destrincha tal debate conceitual, mas recapitula e interpreta os principais marcos do engajamento internacional – em suas facetas militar, civil e diplomática – no Afeganistão desde a deposição do Talibã. De maneira didática, identificaremos quatro etapas nesse processo inacabado: um momento de ilusória estabilidade (2001 - 05); uma fase de intensificação da revolta talibã (2006 - 08); o ápice do conflito, sob o signo da estratégia da contra-insurgência (2009 - 11); e os atuais desafios da transição militar e da reconciliação política (2012 - 14).
