| English abstract | In this text (speech), the author – as the patron of the 7th Book Fair of Sananduva, RS, whose theme was Reader training: a leap of quality for the public school – brings a number of reflections on reader training today. He emphasizes some traces of the history of the reader, born together with writing, the milestone of the so-called history of humankind. He emphasizes how the writing and reading skills have served the interest of the powerful throughout times. And he points out the basic conditions for the existence of critical readers and the responsibility, not only of the school, but of all State institutions, both public and private, in their training, guarantying one of the most sacred human rights in a democratic society |
| Portuguese abstract | Neste texto (discurso), o autor – como patrono da VII Feira do Livro de Sananduva, RS, que tinha por tema Formação de leitores: um salto de qualidade para a escola pública – faz uma série de reflexões sobre a formação do leitor hoje. Destaca alguns traços da história do leitor, nascido juntamente com a escrita que foi o marco inicial da hoje denominada história da humanidade. Enfatiza como o domínio da escrita e da leitura tem, em geral, servido aos interesses dos poderosos e dominantes através dos tempos. Destaca as condições básicas para a existência de leitores críticos e a responsabilidade, não somente da escola, mas de todas as instituições do Estado, públicas e privadas, em sua formação, como garantia de um dos mais sagrados direitos humanos no contexto de uma sociedade democrática |
