| Spanish abstract | El territorio de la actual República Argentina fue parte del virreinato del Perú hasta que en el siglo XVIII, por orden del Rey Carlos III se crea el virreinato del Río de la Plata. Se mantendrá con ese nombre hasta el 25 de mayo de 1810, fecha en la cual se inicia la separación de la corona española. Este hecho, conocido como la Revolución de Mayo, del cual este año es el bicentenario, marca la división de la historia argentina en dos periodos bien definidos, el colonial y el independiente. La ruptura del orden político repercutirá también en la documentación, aunque algunas instituciones continuarán por un tiempo todavía en vigencia. | English abstract | The territory of present Republic of Argentina, was part of the Viceroyalty of Peru until the eighteenth century, wen by order of King Charles III was created the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata. It will be kept that name until 25 May 1810, date on which begins the separation of the Spanish crown.
