| Spanish abstract | El discurso público sobre terrorismo comete con frecuencia un tipo de falacia por generalización que consiste en acusar a alguien de terrorista sobre elementos no suficientes ni representativos. Subespecie de la clásica secundum quid, este artículo la estudia bajo la denominación ad terrorem. A los manifestantes antigubernamentales, a los disidentes, a los rebeldes, a los vándalos, se les llama terroristas. Pero el terrorismo es un fenó- meno que posee rasgos múltiples, todos ellos necesarios. Estas falacias esconden en su inferencia ―el nexo que une las premisas con la conclusión ―una definición del terrorismo sesgada por intereses ideológicos cuyo fin es la justificación del poder. Con ellas se criminaliza y denigra, e inevitablemente se produce un efecto aún más perverso: trivializar el terror. Aparte, la falacia ad terrorem se ha convertido en un indicio de la conciencia democrática de quien la comete y una señal de la constitución del terrorismo en emblema contemporáneo de lo abominable |
| English abstract | The public discourse on terrorism often commits a type of generalizing fallacy that of accusing someone of terrorist based upon insufficient, unrepresentative elements. A subspecies of the classical secundum quid is studied in this article under the name of ad terrorem. Government protesters, dissidents, rebels, and vandals, they are all called terrorists. But terrorism is a phenomenon with multiple traits, all of them necessary. Hidden in these fallacies’ inference ―the link that binds the premises to the conclusion― there is a definition of terrorism biased by ideological interests aiming at the justification of power. They allow to criminalizing and denigrating, and inevitably, an even more perverse effect also occurs: the trivialization of terror. Besides, the ad terrorem fallacy has become a sign of the democratic conscience of the perpetrator as well as a constituting sign of terrorism as a contemporary emblem of the abominable |
