English abstract | Rousseau has not only been considered as one of the most important thinkers from the Enlightenment, but also, as a pioneer on Romanticism for his investigations on human subjectivity in which he addresses the relationship between affective and intellectual faculties. Affectivity and politics have been a fructiferous field of research in Rousseau studies, especially those related with self-love, love of self and pity. Departing from this field, this article aims to inquire into the affective roots of subjectivity and how they allow to elucidate social sanctions as affective/intellectual mechanisms. Finally, it proposes that autonomy is about appropriation and deliberate use of this mechanisms |
