| English abstract | This paper examines the economic and political elements that allow periodizing violence in Colombia in the XX and XXI centuries, in addition to observing its conceptual construction and the onsequences that are derived from said interpretations. To thiseffect, the first section presents figures regarding the magnitude and impact of violence; the second discusses the causal dimensions of the conflict; the third presents the most relevant historiographical interpretations; the fourth presents conclusions. |
| Spanish abstract | Este artículo examina los elementos económicos y políticos que permiten periodizar la violencia en Colombia en los siglos XX y XXI, además de observar su construcción conceptual y las consecuencias que de tales interpretaciones se derivan. Para ello, la primera sección presenta datos sobre la magnitud e impacto de la violencia; la segunda discute sobre las dimensiones causales del conflicto; la tercera presenta las interpretaciones historiográficas más relevantes; la cuarta presenta conclusiones. |
