| Spanish abstract | A raíz de la actual crisis económica, se asiste a un renovado interés por el voluntariado debido a que tiene repercusiones sociales y culturales de largo alcance. Se optó por desplazar la pregunta de las necesidades sociales objetivas a la evaluación subjetiva que las personas hacen de la calidad de sus sociedades, y toma como criterio para esta medición el constructo bienestar social de Keyes (1998). Mediante un modelo estadístico multivariado (análisis de trayectorias o path analysis ), se explora la relación entre variables como altruismo, empatía y bienestar social, las cuales están relacionadas en el comportamiento voluntario estudiantil. Los resultados indican que el bienestar social predice el voluntariado mediando la relación, la empatía y sobre todo el altruismo. Se señalan las limitaciones e implicaciones de la investigación |
| English abstract | Following the economic crisis we are witnessing an expansion and a renewed interest in volunteering because it has far- reaching social and cultural implications. In this study, it was decided to displace the question from the social objective needs to the subjective assessment that people make of the quality of their societies, using as criteria for this measurement Keyes’s (1998) social well- being construct. The aim was to explore, using a multivariate statistical model ( path analysis ), how the variables of altruism, empathy, and social well-being are related to student volunteer behavior. The results indicated that social well-being predicted volunteering, mediating empathy and mainly altruism in this relationship. The limitations and implications of the research are particularized |
