| Spanish abstract | El presente ensayo tiene como objetivo analizar el dilema histórico entre democracia y autoritarismo, un problema presente a lo largo de la historia venezolana. Específicamente se estudia el periodo que va de 1958 hasta la actual coyuntura histórica. Se utilizó la metodología histórica para explicar las relaciones de cambio y continuidad en el contexto histórico-político venezolano. Se concluye que en Venezuela la debilidad institucional no permitió consolidar una cultura democrática durante los 40 años de democracia puntofijista, al elegir a Chávez los venezolanos optaron nuevamente por la vía del autoritarismo que ha evolucionado actualmente hasta un sistema totalitario |
| English abstract | The present essay aims to analyze the historical dilemma between democracy and authoritarianism, a problem presents throughout Venezuelan history. Specifically, the period from 1958 to the current historical conjuncture is studied. Historical methodology was used to explain the relations of change and continuity in the Venezuelan historical-political context. It is concluded that in Venezuela the institutional weakness did not allow to consolidate a democratic culture during the 40 years of puntofijista democracy, when electing Chávez, the Venezuelans opted again for the path of authoritarianism that has now evolved into a totalitarian system |
