| English abstract | The physical educator as a member of the multidisciplinary team that integrates in stimulating the development of children and youth with Down syndrome (DS) programs should promote stimulation with activities aimed at the overall development, fostering physical, mental and social health of children. The participation of parents in this process contributes to the optimal development of the individual. Therefore this study aimed to understand the perception of parents of people with DS on the role of physical education professionals on an extension project to the community. For this, we used a semi - structured interview to the parents of these adolescents with DS. These adolescents were between 10 and 20 years old. The data obtained from responses were processed by content analysis of Bardin, seeking to elect significant stretches in the responses of individuals. This analysis concluded that the involvement of the Physical Education Professional promotes a real transformation and a change in the lives of individuals with DS where the variability in the schedule of classes indicates satisfactory results, motivating and providing the same pleasure as well as stimulate their development |
| Portuguese abstract | O educador físico, como membro que integra a equipe multiprofissional nos programas de estimulação ao desenvolvimento da criança e do jovem com síndrome de Down (SD), deve promover a estimulação com atividades que proponham o desenvolvimento global, estimulando a saúde física, mental e social da criança. A participação dos pais nesse processo contribui para o melhor desenvolvimento do indivíduo. Portanto, essa pesquisa teve como objetivo conhecer a percepção de pais de pessoas com SD sobre a atuação de profissionais de Educação Física em um Projeto de Extensão à comunidade. Para isto, utilizou-se de uma entrevista semi-estruturada para os pais de adolescentes com SD. Estes adolescentes apresentam idade entre 10 e 20 anos. Os dados obtidos com as respostas foram tratados pela Análise de Conteúdo de Bardin, buscando eleger trechos significativos nas respostas dos indivíduos. Esta análise demonstrou que o envolvimento do profissional de Educação Física promove uma transformação real e uma mudança na vida dos indivíduos com SD onde a variabilidade na programação das aulas aponta resultados satisfatórios, motivando e proporcionando prazer aos mesmos além de estimular o seu desenvolvimento |
