| English abstract | Aiming to present the basis of a treaty of rural sociology according to Henri Lefèbvre’s thought, this paper considered the decade between the years 1948 and 1958 from the empirical and theoretical experience of the French Marxist philosopher and sociologist. Moreover, presented arguments that suggest the importance of rural sociology and how it enables a new understanding of the meaning of the earth. In the first one, it sets out the main Lefèbvres’ criticism on empiricist rural Sociology. In the second, it presents the premises of the regressive-progressive method, lefebvrian methodological basis of the treaty. In the third, there is a record of brief notes on the José de Souza Martins’ rural sociology, a Brazilian sociologist who relied on concepts and categories of Henri Lefèbvre in his studies on the agrarian question in Brazil. In the fourth phase, emphasis is given to the thought of Henri Lefèbvre and the basis of his treatise on rural sociology. | Portuguese abstract | Com o objetivo de apresentar as bases de um tratado de Sociologia Rural segundo o pensamento de Henri Lefèbvre, este artigo considerou a década compreendida entre os anos de 1948 e 1958, com base nas experiências empíricas e teóricas do sociólogo e filósofo marxista francês. Ademais, apresentou argumentos que apontam a importância de uma Sociologia Rural e como ela permite a compreensão do novo sentido da terra. No primeiro, são expostas as principais críticas de Lefèbvre à Sociologia Rural empiricista e aplicada. No segundo, são apontadas as premissas do método regressivo-progressivo, base metodológica do tratado lefebvriano. No terceiro, há o registro de breves notas sobre a Sociologia Rural de José de Souza Martins, sociólogo brasileiro que se apoiou em conceitos e categorias de Henri Lefèbvre em seus estudos sobre a questão agrária no Brasil. No quarto momento, é dada ênfase ao pensamento de Henri Lefèbvre e as bases de seu tratado de Sociologia Rural.
