| Spanish abstract | El estudio arqueológico de la metalurgia prehispánica de la Cordillera Oriental colombiana entre el 300 y el 1520 d.C. destaca como su característica principal la producción de piezas de ofrenda. Las figuras votivas son sobre todo antropomorfas y en ellas, aparte de los géneros femenino y masculino, existe un tercer género denominado asexuado. Este tiene, en términos cuantitativos, una importancia ligeramente superior al de las mujeres, aun cuando en términos cualitativos es definitivamente inferior. Para los pueblos prehispánicos de la Cordillera Oriental los sacrificios y las ofrendas fueron formas de restablecer el equilibrio dual del mundo. Se plantea que las figuras votivas, con sus diversas representaciones, encarnan o contienen, más que representan, principios básicos, y que su ofrenda en determinados sitios y condiciones servía a los jeques o chamanes para restablecer el equilibrio. | English abstract | The archaeological study of the pre-Hispanic metallurgy of the Colombian Eastern Cordillera between 300 and 1,520 a.C., shows that its main characteristic is the production of religious offering pieces. The votive figures are mostly anthropomorphous, and in them, aside from the female and male genders, exists a third gender called unsexed. This one has, in quantitative terms, an importance slightly greater than women, even if in qualitative terms it is definitely lower. For the pre-Hispanic towns of the Oriental Cordillera the sacrifices and the offerings were forms of re-establishing the dual equilibrium of the world. The author sustains that votive figures, with their different representations, embody or contain, more that represent, basic principles, and their offering in specific places and conditions served to the jeques or shamans to re-establish the equilibrium. The third gender, in agreement with the Andean logic, is an inherent part of the dual opposition |
