| Spanish abstract | El oro continúa vigente en la tradición oral y la mitología de los indígenas de las etnias embera, embera-chamí y waunaan del suroccidente de Colombia. Los adornos de oro ya no están en uso como en la época prehispánica y colonial, aunque varios grupos se dedican, no sin peligro, a la minería de este metal. Por el contrario, los adornos de plata, tal vez de origen colonial, son producidos y utilizados actualmente. Porré, a la vez árbol y animal, es "la madre del oro" en los relatos indígenas, que también describen los usos antiguos del oro. El artículo revisa una amplia bibliografía y compila información reunida durante casi dos décadas de trabajo etnográfico |
| English abstract | Gold still plays an important role in the oral tradition and mythology of the Embera, Embera-Chami and Waunaan Indians of south western Colombia. Gold ornaments are no longer used as they were in pre-Hispanic times and in the colonial era, although several groups still engage in gold mining activities - not without danger. Silver ornaments of possibly colonial origin are made and used today, on the other hand. Porré, which is both tree and animal, is "the mother of gold" in Indian tales, which also describe the uses to which gold was put in the past. The article reviews an extensive bibliography, and brings together information that has been gathered over almost twenty years of ethnographic work |
