| Spanish abstract | El alfabetismo de la población es un aspecto de gran importancia que permite conocer el desarrollo cultural de un país. Este estudio presenta la distribución del alfabetismo estatal, por medio de un índice de índices de alfabetismo (IIA) que interrelaciona todas las variables utilizadas, para dar una panorámica más exacta de la situación tanto del alfabetismo general, como por edad y por sexo en el año de 1980; también se explican algunas de las causas que intervienen en dicha distribución. Otro aspecto del trabajo lo constituye la presentación de los municipios con valores máximos y mínimos de IIA de cada estado, a fin de conocer el comportamiento del alfabetismo en los mismos |
| English abstract | The levels of literacy of the population of a country are directly linked to the cultural development of the same. This paper presents a state distribution of literacy using an index of indexes that relates all the elements used in order to have a more accurate view of the situation of general literacy as well as of literacy levels by age and sex in 1980, and some of the reasons explaining that distribution. The paper also presents the maximum and minimum values of the literacy index in the municipios (the smallest political administrative units of each state) in order to see its behavior |
