| Spanish abstract | Se presenta un análisis de la publicación del Pbro. Enrique María Castro titulada Galileo, escrita en 1893, considerada como la primera en Venezuela sobre este personaje de la ciencia, la cual originó una interesante polémica de su autor con el Sr. Luis Bouquet, hijo, en torno al juicio que se le hizo a Galileo en 1633. Se analiza la polémica tomando en cuenta la contestación de Bouquet y la réplica de Castro. Se demuestra que en este debate Bouquet no convence lo suficiente como para rebatir la defensa que Castro hace de la Iglesia Católica en el caso Galileo. Castro prueba que este caso no fue más que un asunto disciplinario exclusivo de la Inquisición en contra de Galileo y no de la Iglesia como un todo en contra del desarrollo de la ciencia o filosofía natural. Ignorados por más de un siglo, los pormenores y detalles del trabajo de Castro son develados en esta investigación y ofrecidos a la historiografía de Galileo en Venezuela |
| English abstract | An analysis of the publication of the Fr. Enrique M. Castro entitled Galileo of 1893, considered to be the first paper in Venezuela featuring this important protagonist of science, is made. It gives rise to an interesting debate with Mr. Luis Bouquet, Jr. on the Galileo trial of 1633. The debate is analyzed taking into account the Bouquet reply as well as the Castro´s rebuttal and his subsequent re-rebuttal. It shows clearly that Bouquet, in this debate, does not convince enough as to rebuke the defense made by Castro in favor of the Catholic Church in the Galileo case. Castro proves that this case is nothing more than an exclusive disciplinary matter of the Inquisition against Galileo, and not to the Church, as a whole, against the development of science or natural philosophy. Unnoticed or ignored for more than one century, the particulars and details of the Castro´s work are unveiled in this investigation and offered to the historiography of Galileo |
