| English abstract | The present study aims at understanding the conceptions of God and music elaborated by Saint Augustine in his treatise De Musica, especially in book VI, in which God is presented as source and place of the perpetual numbers and source of the perpetual harmonies. The untiring search for the knowledge of the Supreme God lead Augustine to elaborations with such perception of the tenuous and with such theoretical consistency until then not unveiled by other authors, conceiving music in perfect congruence with the love devoted to God and instituting a harmonious bond between the sensible beauty and the Supreme Beauty |
| Portuguese abstract | O presente estudo visa compreender as concepções de Deus e de música elaboradas por Santo Agostinho em seu tratado De Musica, especialmente no livro VI, no qual Deus é apresentado como fonte e lugar dos números eternos e fonte das harmonias eternas. A incansável busca pelo conhecimento do Deus Supremo conduziu Agostinho a elaborações com percepção de sutilezas e consistência teórica até então não explicitadas por outros autores, concebendo a música em perfeita congruência com o amor a Deus devotado e instituindo um harmonioso vínculo entre a beleza sensível e a Beleza Suprema |
