| English abstract | Social representations of elementary and middle school teachers can be defined as filters used to analyse their surroundings and as guidelines that will define their behavior and inter-personal relations. This study identified and compared social representations of what is considered to be “the abilities of a good teacher”. The research was carried out among 150 teachers of elementary and middle school in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The “good teacher” is defined by his/her ability to maintain order but also by the type of relationship they are able to establish with the students considering their attention and care toward them. Other characteristics were also included in the analysis such as creativity for instance even though it is not exclusively related to being a teacher. The demands of day-to-day activities are likely to introduce cognitive elements in social representations and it is possible to identify common elements between the different grades, especially the following: knowledge, patience, interaction and creativity |
| Portuguese abstract | As representações sociais que o professor possui de sua práxis não somente são filtros que o auxiliam no entendimento do mundo a sua volta como também orientam seus comportamentos e as relações interpessoais que experimenta. O presente estudo identificou e comparou as representações sociais sobre “habilidades do bom professor” de 150 professores de três segmentos de ensino, a saber: 1º e 2º segmentos do Ensino Fundamental e Ensino Médio. O bom professor é representado socialmente não apenas pelos atributos normativos que compõem a categoria habilidades profissionais, mas também por habilidades relacionais e inovadoras. As demandas da prática diária ajudam a introduzir elementos cognitivos nas representações sociais. Em seus prováveis núcleos centrais, alguns elementos são comuns entre os segmentos, destacando-se conhecimento, paciência, interação e criatividade |
