| Spanish abstract | El presente estudio tiene como objetivo reconstruir hipotéticamente los ejércitos mayas de las tierras bajas septentrionales hacia el Clásico tardío-terminal (600-1000 d.C), a través de la ar-queología de la guerra y el análisis gráfico de diversos murales provenientes de los sitios de Chichén Itzá, Chacmultún, Ichmac y Mulchic. Para apoyar la propuesta se emplearon algunos documentos históricos relativos a la conquista y colonización de la península yucateca, los cuales proporcionan valiosa información relacionada con la beligerancia maya. Las pinturas de cada asentamiento arqueológico son estudiadas de manera particular, se exponen los sistemas de armamento, la posible organización militar de los contingentes, así como los sistemas de mando y las tácticas empleadas durante los conflictos bélicos. Inclusive se trata de desmitificar algunas ideas relativas a estas imágenes |
| English abstract | The aim of the present study is to hypothetically reconstruct the Northern Maya Lowland armies from the Late to Terminal Classic period (AD 600-1000), through the archaeology of warfare and the graphic analysis of diverse murals from the sites of Chichén Itzá, Chacmultún, Ichmac, and Mulchic. To support the proposal some historical documents on the conquest and coloniza-tion of the Yucatán peninsula that provide valuable information about Maya warfare were used. The paintings from each archaeological site are studied in particular way. The weaponry is characterized, as well as the possible military organization of contingents and the command systems and tactics employed during the armed conflicts. This paper also tries to clarify some prevailing ideas associated with these paintings that need to be disproven |
