| Spanish abstract | Se describe e ilustra en detalle Carica candicans A. Gray (Caricaceae), una fruta utilizada en el Perú desde la época prehispánica. C. candicans A. Gray habita desde la costa hasta los Andes, entre los 0-3000 m de elevación. Se indaga sobre su conocimiento popular en la población andina del norte de Perú (especialmente, regiones de Cajamarca y La Libertad) quienes la utilizan como alimento. Asimismo, se identifican y se describen representaciones de la mencionada fruta en la colección de cerámica prehispánica que custodia el Museo de Historia Natural y Cultural de la Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego, Trujillo, Perú, a fin de establecer evidencias de su uso por los pobladores peruanos antes de la llegada de los españoles |
| English abstract | We describe and illustrate in detail Carica candicans A. Gray (Caricaceae), a fruit utilized in Peru since the Pre-Columbian era. C. candicans A. Gray is found in the coast and the Andes, between 0 and 3000 m of altitude. We inquired about its common knowledge in the Andean population from Northern Peru (especially in Cajamarca and La Libertad regions) who utilize it for feeding. Depictions of this fruit were identified and described in the collection of Pre-Columbian pottery preserved in the Museum of Natural and Cultural History of the Antenor Orrego University, Trujillo, Peru, in order to establish evidences of its usage by the inhabitants of ancient Peru |
